Beauty & The Beast and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 & 2 director Bill Condon is in early talks about helming The Bride Of Frankenstein, another in the Universal Monsters shared universe, which kicks off with the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy. [via Deadline]
This is actually a very interesting choice, because way back in 1998 Condon wrote and directed the excellent Gods & Monsters, a (very fanciful) biopic about the director of the 1931 Frankenstein and its 1935 sequel, The Bride Of Frankenstein. Condon won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for that one.
This new version is said to have a feminist twist. But will the female creature have Marge Simpson’s hair, is the crucial question?
As well as The Mummy and The Bride Of Frankenstein, The Universal Monster shared universe is also planning films based on the Invisible Man, the Wolf Man, the Creature From The Black Lagoon and Van Helsing, with Dr Jekyll (and his other half) also expected to make appearances across a number of films.
The Mummy is due for a UK release on 9 June.
