The US SyFy channel has released the first trailer for Krypton, the Superman prequel series that follows the fortunes of the House Of El in the years before Superman’s home planet was tossed on the interstellar barbecue. Or, as the trailer puts it (the narration seem to be in the form of a message to Kal-El), “The story of your family isn’t how we died, but how we lived.” It certainly looks like it lives more naturally in the Man Of Steel/Justice League universe than the more bright and breezy Arrowverse on the CW.
Krypton is set to debut later this year. The series will follow Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El, in his rebellious youthful days, as he fights to redeem the House Of El’s honour and save his beloved world from doom. Newcomer Cameron Cuffe plays Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, with Georgina Campbell (King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword) as Lyta Zod, part of Krypton’s military caste and daughter of General Alura Zod. Seg-El and Lyta Zod are in a secret, forbidden relationship.
Ian McElhinney (Game Of Thrones) play Val-El, Seg’s grandfather, who defied death by going to the Phantom Zone and is a staunch believer in space exploration. Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons, Beowulf: Return To The Shieldlands) plays Daron-Vex, the chief magistrate of Kandor, charged with defending Krypton’s oligarchy.
Krypton is executive produced by David S Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Dark Knight trilogy). Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) is executive producer/showrunner. Colm McCarthy (The Girl With All The Gifts, Peaky Blinders) has directed the pilot which was written by David S Goyer & Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
