Who remembers Monkey? That gloriously bonkers Japanese fantasy show that became a cult hit in dubbed form in the UK in the ’80s? The one with the Monkey guy with his magic staff who travelled on a small cloud, and his mates Piggy the pig guy, Tripitaka the monk and Sandy, the water monster guy. It was based on a Chinese literary classic called Journey To The West, and is probably best remembered for its funky theme tune (“the punkiest monkey that ever popped,” go the frankly insane lyrics).
Monkey magic is set to return. Believe it or not, there’s a remake in the works. We hope they keep the themed tune.
