Freeform’s small screen adaptation of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger isn’t due to premiere in the States until early 2018 (and there’s no news of a UK broadcaster yet) but the network has already released the first trailer. There will be 10 episodes in the first season.
The spin on the superhero genre this time is a YA romance one. Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Tandy can emit light daggers and heal people while Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in a supernatural darkness. They quickly learn that they are better together than apart, but their relationship can also lead to complications.
The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski (Underground, Heroes) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Marvel’s Iron Fist), Marvel’s Head of Television and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Marvel’s Iron Fist) will also serve as executive producers. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) is directing the first episode.
We’re also intrigued by the prominent use of Roxxon Corp logo. Just an Easter-eggy piece of set dressing or is the evil oil company going to have a big part to play in the show?
