Game Of Thrones will reach its conclusion in 2018 with its eighth season, but it seems HBO isn’t keen on letting its Westeros visa lapse. According to The Hollywood Reporter the cable network is currently developing not one, not two, not three but four potential spin-offs with four different writers – two of them working with George RR Martin. Current showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff will serve as executive producers on any of the four that HBO decides to greenlight – and who’s to say HBO will green light only one! Could we have a small screen shared universe situation?
The four projects are headed by:
- Max Borenstein, who was showrunner on Fox’s Minority Report series, and scriptwriter on Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.
- A Song Of Ice And Fire author George RR Martin and regular Matthew Vaughn collaborator Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle).
- Brian Helgeland, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of LA Confidential and director of A Knight’s Tale, Payback, 42 and Legend.
- George RR Martin and Carly Wray, whose TV credits include Mad Men, The Bastard Executioner, Constantine and The Leftovers.
What we don’t know is if any of these are sequel or prequels, or whether any of them would feature character seen in Game Of Thrones.
