Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, or WFRP to its friends, is one of tabletop roleplaying‘s giants. Initially produced by Games Workshop, it threw players into the middle of a colossal, colossally hostile world of decaying Empire, Chaos at the borders and sudden, brutal death. It also set the standard for tabletop RPG campaigns with The Enemy Within, an epic six book series that’s viewed, rightly, as the Game Of Thrones of tabletop gaming.
Now, WFRP is back! Cubicle 7, publishers of the official Doctor Who RPG, Sigil & Sign and The One Ring among many others, announced a new edition of the game this week. Here’s Dominic McDowall, the company CEO:
“Like so many gamers I grew up on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. It’s an iconic setting and I’m thrilled to be working on this new edition of the game. Our team have a huge breadth of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and I’m excited to be able to bring the Cubicle 7 approach to the Old World. We’ll be revealing more of our plans in the coming months, so subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our website!”
Better still, it’s been confirmed the edition will draw inspiration from the first two editions of the game which are still widely regarded as the best. So, if you like your tabletop gaming dark, gritty and full of a surprising amount of pies (A friend of MCM’s once ran an entire WFRP campaign based around a pie maker’s) then this is absolutely for you. More as we get it.
