We’re massively fond of the Airbender cycle here at MCM Towers. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the best modern fantasy stories we’ve ever encountered and The Legend of Korra, the sequel, is if anything even better.
One of the most fun parts of Korra is the early plot focusing on Pro Bending. Bolin and Mako, two of the series’ leads are introduced as competitors in this sport and recruit Korra into their team.
Pro Bending is…well…take elemental magic, combine it with every kind of football, full contact kickboxing and mixed martial arts.
And set it over water.
It’s a massively fun concept and now it’s coming to tabletop gaming. Korra: Pro-Bending Arena is a deck building game where you and another play take on the roles of Korra’s team, the Fire Ferrets or their arch rivals the White Hill Wolfbats.
It’s scheduled to jit Kickstarter later this summer and should be out on the shelves in Autumn. Current price point is $50 which is about £35 give or take. That’s looking like a good deal so, wash your gear and get ready, because the season is about to begin.
Thanks to io9 for the tip.
