The official website for Polygon Pictures and Toho’s upcoming anime Godzilla: Monster Planet has been updated with a new poster and full trailer.
With the planet beset by the emergence of colossal creatures, the humans are unable to compete. In 2048, a select number of humans board an interstellar emigration vessel, the Aratrum; its 11.9-lightyear journey will see them travel to the planet Tau-e in the Cetus constellation. But after 20 years of space travel, upon arrival they find Tau-e to be uninhabitable by humans. One young man onboard the Aratrum is Haruo Sakaki, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla when he was only four years old. He has thought of nothing but returning to Earth to defeat Godzilla. The Aratrum manages to make the return journey, but the Earth they once knew has now become an alien planet. Can mankind take back its native planet and will Haruo get his revenge?
The new trailer begins with Haruo (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) narrating during Godzilla’s initial attack. We then see the unsuccessful space journey and return to Earth, with Haruo leading a counter-attack against Godzilla.
Directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita (both of whom worked on Knights of Sidonia), the film is the first instalment in a trilogy of animated Godzilla films.
Godzilla: Monster Planet opens in Japan on 17 November 2017 and will arrive on Netflix later in the year.
