Following the news that Deep Silver would be publishing Shenmue III worldwide, we now have the first teaser trailer to the game from the official PlayStation channel on YouTube.
Yu Suzuki’s long awaited third instalment follows Ryo Hazuki’s search for Lan Di, the man who killed his father. The teaser features Ryo and Shenhua Ling, and a bit of Ryo getting into fights. The game doesn’t look that different from its Dreamcast and Xbox instalments (maybe keeping a semblance of its retro origins is part of its appeal). As stated in the description, the footage is from an “in-development build of the game” that uses Unreal Engine 4. This would likely explain some of those expressionless faces that’ll hopefully have a bit more emotion in the finished version.
Development on Shenmue III began after a successful Kickstarter campaign in June 2015, raising more than $6 million (way over its $2 million target).
Shenmue III is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 4 and PC in the second half of 2018.
