CBS All Access announced today that the second installment of season one will return on Sunday, January 7, 2018. The first episode – of what’s being called “chapter two” – “Despite Yourself” will be available on this date at 8:30 pm Eastern Time in the US and at 12pm on Monday, January 8th in the UK on Netflix. It’s only 59 days to wait.
A description of the episode, provided in a press release, reads, “While in unfamiliar territory, the USS Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home.”
We left the crew of the Discovery last week en route to planet
Pandora Pahvo for a rendezvous with the Klingons and more than likely a desperate fight to protect the natural lifeform on the planet, since it seems to think it can broker peace between the Empire and Federation.
Following Shazad Latif’s (Lt Ash Tyler) promise that he had plenty of screen time in episode nine (“I’m in it a lot!”) in a recent interview, there’s plenty to suggest that the Voq-is-Tyler theory will also be addressed in Sunday’s episode, entitled “Into the Forest I Go”.
Will the Discovery be forced to flee the fight? Is this a Voyager-like predicament? They could be trapped in Klingon space, or another quadrant, or another galaxy entirely – or possibly the Mirror Universe, a place that Discovery director Jonathan Frakes said will come into play this season.
No doubt Lt Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and his new, spore-bonding powers will be involved somehow.
