It’s straight into the music with this concert movie, following the briefest montage of Hans Zimmer himself walking to the stage, showing that director and editor Tom Van Someren knows his audiophile audience. And that’s for the best, as there’s a lot to showcase from one of cinema’s most successful composers, with more than two hours’ running time somehow still feeling like it barely scratches the surface. “Let’s treat this like a dinner party, we’ll have a chat and play you some music,” says the man himself, bringing you into his world.
While there aren’t any real extras to speak of, you will want to dig into the menu to turn on Dolby Atmos if you have compatible home cinema equipment. The impressive collection of musicians that’s been assembled, marshalled by Zimmer himself, deserve nothing less. And with tracks from some of the biggest movie hits (Gladiator, The Dark Knight Trilogy) and a truly diverse reach (Madagascar, Rain Man, Driving Miss Daisy), even those who’ve never heard of Zimmer will be tapping their feet.
