Assassination Classroom Season 2 Part 2 DVD & Blu-ray review
Class 3-E are back for their third term, the date of Koro-sensei’s assassination is fast approaching and it’s time to take the final roll call. What’s most important, though, is finding out the truth behind their enigmatic teacher: where he came from; how he received his powers; and why he’s their teacher in the first place! But with the knowledge of Koro-sensei’s past resting heavily on their minds, will Nagisa and the other students really be able to go through with the titular assassination?
As can be expected of a series of this quality, every episode counts – and this final season steps it up a gear, as class 3-E are forced to accept that their time with Koro-sensei is coming to an end. The first half shows the tentacled teacher’s origins in an emotional flashback, raising doubts in his pupils’ minds over what they should do. For our part, having fallen for Koro-sensei’s charms ages ago, it’s hard to watch Assassination Classroom’s finale without some tissues handy.
The series ties up loose ends well, introducing – or bringing back – characters to create some compelling situations. While Nagisa and Karma are still the top students, these final episodes continue to showcase the strengths of others such as Ritsu and Kayano. The latter is particularly interesting thanks to some unexpected character development over the course of the season.
Assassination Classroom has always been a fun, action-packed series, and its concluding season does not disappoint. It’s full of intrigue and emotion, as well as some of the best action scenes ever to feature in the anime. But what really makes this season stand out is the well-rounded story and the touching moments between Koro-sensei and his students, giving the show the send-off it deserves. Reviewed by Roxy Simons
