If you asked us to name any duo of classic games we’d most love to see re-released on modern consoles, Shenmue and Shenmue 2 would most definitely be up there.
Oh, what’s that? Is it happening? It really is! There’s even a trailer and everything to prove it.
The pair of Dreamcast games follows Ryo Hazuki as he ventures across Japan, Hong Kong and China to avenge his father’s death. Revolutionary in terms of adventure games at the time of release, the game’s open worlds featured full day-to-night cycles and civilians who would follow their own daily routines.
The games are also remembered for their gameplay variety, as you bounce between jujitsu combat, conversation and those thrilling bits where you had to drive a forklift truck.
SEGA promises that the new releases will be ‘the definitive version of these all-time classics’. Features include scalable screen resolutions, a choice between modern or classic control schemes, an updated interface, English and Japanese voiceovers, and a suite of graphics options on PC.
Altogether, it’s the perfect package to get you ready for the long-anticipated conclusion in Shenmue 3 later this year.
Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC later in 2018.
