In 2009, fans were introduced to the comedy horror film Zombieland. Set in a zombie post-apocalypse it told the story of survivors Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) as they roamed across the zombie-infected Los Angeles looking for a safe haven…and a Twinkie.
The film was a financial and critical hit and ever since its release, fans have been hoping for a sequel. Those hopes may soon be a reality, as reported on Comingsoon.net, the original writers for the film, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have stated that they are planning for an October 2019 release date for the highly anticipated Zombieland 2.
Despite the time gap, Wernick confirmed that the original Zombieland cast will be returning for the sequel:
“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2… The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way.”
The writer then added:
“We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon,”
Aside from these statements, no official announcements have been made about the film’s details. But this news is definitely positive for fans of the original and we can’t wait for more updates.
