Will Smith had recently posted the teaser poster for his upcoming film Aladdin on his Instagram page (reminiscent of the original film’s first poster). This meant that a trailer wasn’t that far off. Disney has now released the first teaser trailer for their live-action remake.
Charming street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud) battles to save the free-spirited Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) from the schemes of the evil sorcerer Jafar (Marwan Kenzaris). However, Aladdin’s whole life changes after rubbing a magic lamp, releasing a magical Genie (Will Smith) who grants him three wishes.
The teaser sweeps us into the world of Agrabah and shows the entrance of the Cave of Wonders, as well as the treasures inside, including the magical lamp.
The original film was released back in 1992 and became one of Disney’s highest grossing films, earning over $500 million worldwide. It saw two direct-to-video sequels, a TV series, a musical theatre adaptation and a few popular video games.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film also stars Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as Hakim.
Aladdin is released in the UK and US on 24 May 2019.
