Back in September, Sony announced the Classic micro-console, a pared down version of their original PS1 console with 20 pre-installed classic games, with a reveal trailer that showed in a bit more detail exactly what to expect.
The console itself is an exact replica of the bulky grey PS1, but has been reduced in size by 45% and comes with two original style wired PlayStation controllers. No more games can be added and you’ll have to order a USB 5V/1.0 amp AC adapter separately to power it.
Now Sony has revealed the full list of games that will come with it. For the US and Europe, the 20 games included with the console are the same…
Battle Arena Toshinden
Cool Boarders 2
Final Fantasy VII
Grand Theft Auto
Metal Gear Solid
Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
Resident Evil Director’s Cut
Ridge Racer Type 4
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
While we’re over the moon to see classics like Ridge Racer, Rainbow Six, Metal Gear Solid and Abe’s Oddysee, noticeable omissions include Silent Hill, Gran Turismo, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and PaRappa the Rappa. Sony might plan a second micro-console release, but it’s doubtful.
In Japan, the bundled games are different and may tempt some to import this version instead. Only 12 of the games are shared, with the Japanese version dropping Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Grand Theft Auto, Oddworld, Rayman, Syphon Filter, Rainbow Six, and Twisted Metal. In their place will be Arc the Lad, Arc the Lad 2, Armored Core, G Darius, Gradius Gaiden, Parasite Eve, SaGa Frontier, and XI (Devil Dice).
The PlayStation Classic is available to pre-order from Amazon right now for $99.99 or £89.99 and it’ll be released on December 3rd.
