Netflix rang in the New Year by adding two new films to its anime catalogue – Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! and The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky.
Directed by Pokémon veteran Kunihiko Yuyama, 2017’s Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! celebrates the anime’s 20th anniversary by rebooting the franchise’s long-running film series. Taking us all the way back to the events of the TV show’s 1997 debut season, the movie follows young Ash Ketchum as he meets the feisty Pikachu for the very first time, with the new friends embarking on a journey to find the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh.
While I Choose You! is the 20th Pokémon movie, Prisoners of the Sky is a feature-length first for A-1 Pictures’ fantasy adventure The Seven Deadly Sins. Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho helmer Noriyuki Abe serves as chief director for the 2018 film, which sees heroine Elizabeth and the titular Seven Deadly Sins come to the aid of the Sky People, who are beset by a powerful group of demons hell-bent on resurrecting an ancient demonic beast.
