7 The Good Place/Yonderland
We knew we had to put one of these comedies on this list but couldn’t decide between them – and seeing as they’re both half an hour long, we figured they’d make up an entire show together. Yes, it’s cheating, but you’re not the boss of us, okay?
NBC’s The Good Place hasn’t arrived in the UK yet, so keep an eye out until it does, as it has a dynamite concept. Kristen (Veronica Mars) Bell’s do-gooding character, Eleanor, dies and goes to Heaven, which is run by the cheerful Michael (Ted Danson), and populated with everything from her soulmate to her perfect house and all the other ingredients for a wonderful eternal afterlife. The trouble is… she’s not actually the right Eleanor, and she really belongs in Hell. Oops. It’s daft, inventive and funny – and Bell is, as always, cute as a button, even when playing a bit of a bitch.
Meanwhile, Sky’s Yonderland returned for its third season and brought Stephen Fry with it as its Big Bad, the wonderfully named Cuddly Dick. And it was as brilliant as ever: we’d even wager it’s one of the best British shows airing today. (It’s certainly the best one with puppets.)
