Altitude Film will be distributing Studio Ponoc’s Mary and the Witch’s Flower across the UK later this year, and they have released the opening scene from the English dub for you to enjoy.
Based on Mary Stewart’s novel, The Little Broomstick, the film tells of twelve-year-old girl Mary. After following a cat into the nearby woods, Mary comes into contact with a Fly-By-Night flower and a magical broomstick. Taken above the clouds, she finds herself at Endor College – a school of magic, where she is taught by head witch Madam Mumblechook and the scientist Doctor Dee. But Mary soon discovers that Endor has some secrets.
Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (director of Studio Ghibli’s Arrietty and When Marnie Was There), the film opened in Japan in July 2017 and went on to earn ¥3.25 billion ($29.4 million) at the Japanese box office. The English dub features the vocal talents of Ruby Barnhill, Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent and Teresa Gallagher.
