John Cena in negotiations to star in Duke Nukem movie

WWE star John Cena is in talks to headline a big screen version of the video game Duke Nukem, as reported on Variety.

The film would be produced by Michael Bay’s company, Platinum Dunes, owned by Paramount, having purchased the movie rights from Gearbox. No writer or director is currently attached to the project.

The Duke Nukem series began in 1991, but reached its peak in 1996 with first-person-shooter Duke Nukem 3D, as the character evolved into a politically incorrect, muscular smoker, who wears sunglasses while carrying heavy weaponry and cracking one-liners as he saves Earth from invading aliens. Essentially a caricature of action heroes from movies of the 1980s and 1990s. The last game, Duke Nukem Forever, was released back in 2011 after being in development for fifteen years.

Following the news, artist BossLogic took to social media to share his depiction of what the character could look like with John Cena in the role.

You can't see him as @johncena but you can see him as Duke Nukem XD @wwe
