It looks like Square Enix is well and truly taking advantage of Disney’s acquisition of Pixar, as a new trailer has confirmed that a world based on Monsters, Inc. will be featured in Kingdom Hearts 3.
Debuted at D23 Expo Japan this weekend, the trailer shows Sora, Donald and Goofy rubbing shoulders with Mike and Sully at the Monsters, Inc. factory. The scare room, door vault and adorable toddler, Boo, also make an appearance.
We get a decent look at the game’s fast and frantic combat system too, as Sora unleashes an assortment of flashy attacks and magical spells in both the Tangled and Toy Story worlds. We even see the return of the Dream Eaters from Dream Drop Distance for one wildly over-the-top summon attack.
The trailer is relatively light on story information, however, outside of a brief conversation with Organization XIII member, Marluxia. Probably for the best, considering how difficult it can be to summarise the overall story of Kingdom Hearts in anything less than a seven-part novel.
Anyway, what matters is that we’ve seen the game is still in development. Whether it makes that scheduled release date of 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One is another thing entirely.
