UK Anime Round-Up 12-18 Feb: Is that a monster in your pocket?

Both of this week’s big UK anime releases are all about the monsters – of the pocket variety in the case of reboot flick Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! and of a sexier stripe in hit harem comedy Monster Musume.

Released on DVD by Manga Entertainment, the Kunihiko Yuyama-helmed Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! is a feature length retelling of Ash and Pikachu’s first adventures, focusing on the duo’s initial meeting and their search for legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh.

Featuring new characters such as Trainers Verity and Sorrel alongside familiar faces, the film’s first printing comes with a bonus DVD of 1998 film Pokemon: The First Movie. Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! is set to get a Blu-ray Steelbook edition on 30 April.

Out as a DVD/Blu-ray/CD Collector’s Edition from MVM, exuberantly ecchi fantasy comedy Monster Musume sees its teen protagonist play host to a whole bestiary of hot monster girls, including sexy serpent Miia, horsey lass Centorea and bird-brained harpy Papi.

MVM only produced 1,000 units of Monster Musume’s CE and the Monmouthshire-based distributor tells us that sales have been going gangbusters, so if you fancy snagging a copy you might want to get your skates on. Standard DVD and Blu-ray versions are out 2 April.

Also out this week is Manga Entertainment’s latest installment of DBZ films, Dragon Ball Z Movie Collection 5. Released as a Blu-ray/DVD combi, the collection consists of a trio of titles starring breakout villain Broly: 1993’s Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan and Broly – Second Coming and Bio-Broly, both from 1994.
