Nintendo is rumoured to be working on a smaller and cheaper Switch model

A new report suggests that Nintendo is working on a new Switch model that will be smaller in size, have fewer features and be cheaper to buy.

The rumour comes from Nikkei.com, a Japanese stock exchange news outlet. The report was then translated by Nintendo Everything, who was able to gather together enough info on a potential new Switch console that could see release later this year.

According to the site, Nintendo would not comment on specific plans for the new model right now, but they intend to “miniaturise” the console while also promoting its “portability” to encourage people to play outside.

Quite how that would work we can only guess right now. Will Nintendo perhaps leave out the TV dock that currently ships with the Switch and focus exclusively on the handheld version of the console? What does this also mean for the Joy-Con controllers – could they now be permanently attached to the device?

It’s all very much within the realm of speculation at this point so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any official announcements in the near future.
