A new teaser for Disney’s live-action Aladdin was broadcast during the 61st Grammy Awards. The teaser features the first look at Will Smith as the Genie. It has since been released by Disney online… and comments on YouTube have been mixed.
Charming street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud) battles to save the free-spirited Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) from the schemes of the evil sorcerer Jafar (Marwan Kenzaris). However, Aladdin’s whole life changes after rubbing a magic lamp, releasing a magical Genie (Will Smith) who grants him three wishes.
Will Smith also posted the teaser on his Instagram page, saying, “I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!!” However, a few promotional stills would suggest that his character does not stay in his blue form throughout the film. The teaser also offers glimpses of Jafar, Princess Jasmine, a colourful city of Agrabah and a crumbling Cave of Wonders.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film also stars Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as Hakim.
Aladdin is released in the UK and US on 24 May 2019.
