16 “Klingon Battle” Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Composer: Jerry Goldsmith
Thumpy, thumpy, thumpy, thumpy brilliance. Klingons would demand nothing less.
17 “Frankenstein’s Monster + Magneto” X-Men: First Class
Composer: Henry Jackman
This was the edgy music that accompanied the brilliant scene in which Magneto travels to Argentinian bar to exact revenge on two former Nazis. “Let’s just say, I’m Frankenstein’s monster,” he tells them
18 “Adagio for Tron” Tron: Legacy
Composer: Daft Punk
Who have though that a pair of bonkers, French, synth-pounders could come up with something so beautiful?
19 “Piano Theme” The Leftovers
Composer: Max Richter
This piano theme is so all-pervading in the first season of The Leftovers, you’d be excused for assuming it was the show’s theme tune, but it never was. Not that we really needed to hear more of it.
20 “The Resurrection Waltz” Hellraiser
Composer: Christopher Young
Oddly, you do often see this credited as the Hellraiser theme, but technically it isn’t. Perhaps that says a lot about the power of this track which, musically, does outshine everything else in the movie. It accompanies the scene in which the dead uncle Frank comes back to life in a spectacularly gory fashion.
